SSS Irrigation worked with Fraser to design and plan a sprinkler system for his farm, starting the first project in 2006. With over 90 hectares of farmland, the installations are done in stages when it suits and when funds are available. "It’s like a kit set sprinkler system", Fraser explains. "I get help with the design but take care of the installation myself."

Why did they choose SSS Irrigation?

Fraser chose SSS Irrigation because their systems result in efficient water usage. He does all the irrigation at night time, which means there’s no evaporation.

"In Central Otago, you usually have high evaporation rates in the heat of the summer. But now I do my irrigation at night time and with these sprinkler systems, every bit of water hits the ground. It's really effective watering."

How was the experience working with SSS Irrigation?

Stu at SSS Irrigation came out to the farm and worked out the best way to run the sprinklers, and he then drew up a plan. Fraser explains that no fencing had to be done and no trees cut down. He likes the system because it’s easy and it works.

"The experience was brilliant, and the whole process was very smooth. Stu is a very knowledgeable person", Fraser says.

What were the results?

The project has undoubtedly resulted in a better crop yield. The sprinkler systems have evolved over the years with subtle changes that positively impact the performance. There’s no maintenance or insurance needed, which is another positive aspect. Overall, Fraser finds that his water efficiency is on another level and that the irrigation system performs excellently.
